Year End Numbers

In 2008, I shot 193 rolls of medium format film. All hand processed.

Yep, that's a lot of film.

Hard day of photography and laughter

I got home a bit ago after many hours running around New Mexico with Josh and Todd. We first went to Cabezon, which was incredible. But the highlight was the Guadalupe Ruin of the Chacoan Outliers, which are the outlying ruins of Chaco Canyon. It's at the top of a mesa overlooking God's beautiful earth.

From Cabezon, which was dry and desert like, we went to Torreon, then to Cuba for lunch. After lunch, we went through the Jemez Mountains, which had snow packed roads and tons of mud, and we continued past Fenton Lake and then home.

I only shot 3 rolls of film. Used my 905 SWC most of the time. Too much driving I guess.

Lots of talk of poop, boobs, and photography. I am exhausted. 240 miles.

Six A.M.

It's 6am and I've been up for a while. My little Jelly Bean woke up hungry. Since then, my brain won't shut off.

I am thinking about the next few issues of Fraction.

I am thinking of what to do with my Iceland portfolio (marketing, edition or not to edition, etc.)

I am thinking about the road trip I am about to take today with Josh and Todd.

I am thinking about Review LA.

I am thinking about what to eat for breakfast.

I am thinking.

Delirious

Delirious after an hour in the car, then an hour in REI.

Stuck in Santa Fe

We drove up to Tesuque, a little town to the north of Santa Fe, to have drinks and such with The Caponigros. About 6pm, the snow started to fall. About 8pm or so, we left and the roads were a mess. Unplowed and icy. Not a whole lot of fun with a baby in the back seat. So, we decided to stay with Amelia's sister and her family.

We woke up to 10 to 12 inches of snow. I had to dig the car out and now we are getting ready to head home. Finally. Maybe I can get some holiday shopping done now.

I doubt it.

Binky Boolittle

Little Elizabeth is 4 months old today and she's doing great.

Lots of chitchat and she is holding her head up now and she loves to stand. She's also just finding out how to use her hands which is fun to watch and dangerous for my eyes and nose.

Luckily, she's a happy baby and loves to be in the car. In a couple weeks we are heading to LA via car and we'll see how she does.

I'll post some pictures soon.

Just because your Grandpa's rich...

Apparently, Warren Buffett, the world's richest man with $58 billion dollars in the bank, has a granddaughter who is an artist, and she lives on $40,000 a year. Oh, and she can't afford health insurance. Read more here.... I guess the moral of the story is,

Going to Review LA / Photo LA ?

I've been asked to be a reviewer at Review LA, representing Fraction, so if you are going, please stop by and say hi.

I will be doing the review on Friday afternoon and will be going to Photo LA on Saturday to see all the wonderful work that will be there.

After PhotoLA, I will be going to Rincon for a couple of nights, then back to LA to go to the Getty and a few other places.

A weekend in Santa Fe.

We went to Santa Fe for the night because Lucy and Darren hosted a wonderfully crazy cocktail party.

We woke up to cold temperatures and a bit of snow. This is the back yard.

Then our friend Christopher Benson had an open studio and we got to see more of his amazing painting. Here's my two babies.

Featured on Lenscratch

I am honored to be featured on Aline Smithson's blog, Lenscratch.

I've been following Lenscratch for quite a while and feel that Aline shows quality work on her blog.

Aline's work is also top notch with my favorite portfolio being "imagined experiences". Be sure to check her work out as well.

Going home

I'm in the New Orleans airport and I'm looking forward to being home with my wife and baby.
I spent yesterday in a boat cruising through Bedico creek which is a swamp. Sam has a great little boat and was an excellent guide. I shot about ten rolls with the 905 and will post some photos tomorrow. It was a great time.
When we got home last night, I discovered that my flight was actually for yesterday and not today like I thought. Buying a new ticket was the only way for me get home.
All in all, I had a great time.

Really busy day

I did twelve reviews today in seven hours. I am exhausted and barely have a voice left. I was quite pleased with what I saw and how things went.

The social scene has been quite fun and I've met a ton great people. It's been great being here.

Busy day

I've been palling around with around with Melanie and today we got to see a fair amount of art. There is acity wide show called Prospect 1 and it's rather good.
For me the highlights were a black and white video by Fiona Tan and the "What Remains" show by Sally Mann.

Then there was a reception for the reviewers and then a talk by Bruce Davidson.
Now it's time for bed as I have a long day ahead of me.
I should also mention that lots of people, and I mean lots, know about Fraction. Very cool.

A great night

The Gala was terrific. The turn out was several hundred people. My print was sold to a photo dealer from Connecticut. Very cool.

In Dallas

In Dallas airport. Sat with Jenna on the first flight. Looking forward to being in New Orleans.

Smiles, lots of smiles

"Yep, you got a virus"

I just got home from the "Urgent Care" medical clinic. After waiting 90 minutes in a waiting room filled with coughing, sick people, the doctor finally got to me.

He asked me a few questions and looked in my ears and throat.

"Yep, you got a virus. It's going around".

So what can you do for me? "Nothing." He then recommended Tylenol products. Great.

A lovely way to spend the morning and thirty bucks.

Let me tell you about my day

First, I am sick. Massive headache. Congestion. Some nasal junk. I feel like crap and I haven't had much sleep today.

Elizabeth has been a little cranky today as well and is only happy and smiling when she is sitting on me or Amelia. I put her down next to me, when my little black cat Jack tried to jump up on the couch. He put one set of claws into my leg, and then scratched Elizabeth as he slid off the couch.

Well, Elizabeth let out a massive scream after doing one of those inhales where she did not exhale for about 5 seconds. Yikes. After a few minutes of consoling her, she settled down again, but only until she wanted to be on my lap again.

So I grabbed her and let her stand on my thighs. She loves doing this and she did one of those giant, bright eyed smiles that just melts me. I then lifted her into the air to kiss her belly, when she proceeded to throw up into my eye and down my cheek. Yep, my little beautiful girl threw up on my face.

Amelia could barely keep it together and was laughing out loud, as was I. What else could I do? I changed my shirt, washed my face, and then put Elizabeth down for her evening nap.

Then little Jack threw up on the floor. Fun.

I hate being sick

I have somehow gotten myself a very serious chest cold that has rendered my voice into a deep rumble, not unlike Barry White, and makes me want to say "let's make love baby" a whole lot.

My head is pounding and I feel funky. I was awake, and on the couch, most of the night. Luckily, my cough is minimal even though my throat feels like sand paper.

But the worst part of all of this is not being able to hold baby elizabeth. She is so active now and starting to use her hands and is trying to laugh more and more. I just want to pick her up and squeeze her but I can't. This makes me sad.

I was also hoping to have some darkroom time today but that isn't going to happen. Plus, I leave on Thursday for PhotoNOLA and the big event at NOMA. So, I will be pounding all sorts of vitamin C and tylenol stuff.

But for now, it's nap time.

This photo is from Friday, before I got sick.
