Black widow !
I was sweeping away some cobwebs and this little lady popped out. This is about two feet from the front door. I sprayed her with clorox bleach and then scooped her up with a broom and placed her on a small ant hill in the driveway. It's now a feast for the ants.

Pictures of a naked JellyBean
I'm having a bit of a struggle. I recently made a photograph of little Elizabeth while she was eating ice cream and while she was sitting on the grass, naked.
Now, you can't really see anything but I am feeling a bit funny about it. Once the photograph makes it onto the internet, I guess it will always be floating about somewhere. Will it matter in 10 years? 20 years? It's an innocent baby picture.
Now I do honestly like the work of Sally Mann and Jock Sturges but this is different because this is my child. Like their work, this is a black and white photograph. I happen to think it is quite good. I also think, Elizabeth will really like this when she is an adult.
I've asked my wife about this and she has no problem with the photograph being shown on my blog. She knows the amount of traffic I get and she knows where most of my readers are from (yes I have tracking software).
So dear readers, what should I do? Would you post a photograph of your naked child, your naked daughter, on the internet? Any thoughts are appreciated.

What to do in Santa Fe on Friday 8/28
I am really looking forward to the following shows in Santa Fe on Friday 8/28.
First being the all female show "Reverie & Rhapsody" at Verve, featuring Susan kae Grant, Beth Moon, and Susan Burnstine. The show opens at 5pm and is sure to be a hit. Check the Verve site for details on gallery talks.
Then, wander over to Photo-eye for the show "Empty Spaces" by Eric Cousineau and Barbara A Diener. This show also opens from 5pm to 7pm.
When you've had enough of crowded spaces and beautiful photography, head over to The Cowgirl Hall of Fame. I'll be there with Jonathan Blaustein, David Ondrik and Melanie McWhorter. Rumor has it that Melanie is buying drinks. Woohoo!!!

Hey, there's a naked woman on my film
So here I am at 11pm, trying to get caught up on some miscellaneous film that has been sitting around for a while. For example, that roll of HP5+ that I just did was exposed on December 26 of 2008.
Anyway, I just processed two rolls of Neopan 400 that I honestly do not remember shooting but they are in the box with the rest of the film, including two rolls of APX100 that I will be doing next. At least I think the APX100 is mine because I've shot a lot of it and still have 200 rolls in my fridge.
Well, I finish washing the film, pull it off the reel and hold it up to the light. WTF!! There's a naked woman on this roll!! Who the hell is this and how did she get on my film. Hell, is this my film?
I've only had one friend use my darkroom in recent times and he only made some prints. I guess I will be making some contact sheets tomorrow to see who this was. In negative form, I do not recognize her.
So, if you seem to be missing a couple of rolls of Neopan 400, and you've been in my darkroom lately, let me know. My wife has a few questions for you.

Edward Ranney at the Albuquerque Museum
In 1978, Ed Ranney began working collaboratively with Charles Ross to photograph the creation of Ross’ earthwork sculpture, Star Axis. Ranney annually photographs Star Axis, a celestial observatory near Las Vegas, New Mexico. Standing eleven stories high and measuring 1/10th of a mile across, this sculpture places viewers inside the trajectory of the earth’s axis. Both Ranney and Ross will talk about their years of collaboration around the project.
The talk takes place on Sunday, August 30 at 1pm at The Albuquerque Museum
The talk is part of the show The Shape of Time: Photographs of Star Axis by Edward Ranney, 1979 – 2009 and it runs from June 28 - September 20, 2009
More details here
About the show:
Edward Ranney has photographed the growth of the earth-sculpture Star Axis since 1979, when Charles Ross began excavation of the southern edge of Chupinas Mesa, near Las Vegas, New Mexico, for the construction of the site’s eleven story Star Tunnel. The large-format photographs Ranney has taken each year since then reveal a major site growing out of its own rubble. For Ranney, with his extensive experience photographing pre-Columbian sites of ancient America, this process might be described as a kind of visual archaeology in reverse. Inherent in a project spanning a generation are visual observations of the power of a specific site as it grows and changes over time, as well as a poetic sense of the changing shape of time itself. Here photographic documentation speaks not only of architectural construction, but also of process and duration, intuition and aspiration, and a shared desire to understand cosmic phenomena on a human scale.

Happy Birthday Elizabeth!
Today is Elizabeth's first birthday. I cannot believe it. This year has gone by so fast.
She is crawling. She is pulling herself up to stand. I swear she says "dad da". And this morning we are pretty sure she said "Hi Daisy" when she saw a photo of her cousin Daisy.
I am going to do some b&w photographs later today. Tonight we are going to an Isotopes game. Should be fun for everyone.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JELLYBEAN !!!

It's good to be a dad
You all know how much I love my daughter. My little JellyBean is everything and I love being a dad, a father.
So when I approached Aline Smithson (of Lenscratch) about curating a group show on Fraction Magazine, I was totally excited and thrilled about her idea of the Fathers and Sons show.
It is a terrific mix of great work by great artists. This show includes Blake Andrews,
Timothy Archibald, Dennis Chamberlin, Todd Deutsch, Shawn Gust, Warren Harold, Tom Leininger, Shawn Records, Peter Tonningsen, Tread and Byron Wolfe.
I think it is really an exceptional show. Please check it out.
A huge thanks to Aline and everyone else for participating.

Sunday Nap
This weekend Amelia's sister Ellie married a nice guy named Javier. The party kept Elizabeth awake for a while and she loves a party.
She was pretty tired today and so was I. When I put her down for her morning nap, in her crib, I took a nap as well. About 90 minutes later, she woke up and I grabbed her and put her bed with me. At some point, she spun herself around and had her head on my stomach.
I'm not sure when Amelia grabbed this shot, but I was completely unaware of it until she showed it to me.

Having a bad f*cking day
Got up this morning and developed a roll of film that came out great.
Did not have breakfast.
Instead, decide to get my Subaru re-registered.
So I head over to the local emissions testing place only to have the car fail the test because of a faulty gas cap. That's right. It did not lock tight enough so I had to go buy another one and pay an additional $10 to get the car retested. Unfuckingbelievable (is that one word?).
The registration had lapsed so there was a $23 fee for that and because I was doing this at a private company and not at the actual state office, there was a $21 fee.
Then I had another run in with the Bank of America. They are running a full fledged bait and switch scam. As a result, I have closed the four accounts I have, I mean had with them.
Fuck the Bank of America.
Have a good day.

Josh and the 8x10
A week ago, I was in New Hampshire for Josh and Julia's wedding party event. I did not get to see much of them other than the party. While there, Josh had to do a ton of yard work and manual labor to prepare for the party but he was also doing one photograph per day with his father in law's 8x10 camera. If the rest look this good, he needs to do away with digital schmigital and medium format gear.
Josh, I know you are reading this, and you should know this is a damn fine photograph.

I would have kicked the door down
Stuck on a plane for 14 hours including 6 hours on the tarmac? No fucking way.
You would have seen me on the evening news as the man who went nuts and ripped a plane apart.
Read the awful details here.

On the dance floor
Back Home and Busy
Got home last night around 830pm or so. It was a long day of flying which is even hard with a baby and a lay over in Orlando.
Today I am busy answering emails, getting unpacked, doing laundry, and trying not to lose my mind. Amelia and JellyBean are napping and I am not, but should be. Maybe later.
It was a really great trip. Two nights in Amherst Mass seeing Holly (and her family) and Jörg (and his misses). Eight nights in New Hampshire sleeping next to Crystal Lake (isn't that where Jason of Friday the 13th lives?) and seeing my brother and his clan as well as a little party with Josh and Julia. Then three nights in Keene Valley in the Adirondacks with my wives family. They are a great bunch.
Now I have some work to do including 15 rolls of film to develop. Hoping to have some time tomorrow to get at least half done.
If I owe you an email, please be patient. Also have some pictures to upload.
